The leftovers of a heat claw on his nose. They’ve spent so many in here, alone, in the presence of no one but their own lonesome. Their love was intoxicating. It wasn’t pretty nor loving; full and pure of obsession and lust. That was their haven. That is what they knew as home.
What is Dazai Osamu without sorrow, and what is Nakahara Chuuya without loss?
Truly, everything is lost the moment he obtains it.

“I would say you haven’t changed a bit, but evidently, you have.” His gaze lingers far too long on Dazai’s body, as if mentally undressing him with wine-drunk eyes.
Dazai wants to vomit.
“Are you implying something?”
“Not at all,” a sneer, “simply observing.”
“Right. And what might that observation be?”
A smirk, “Enjoy the rest of your lunch, Osamu.”

Summary
He’d say God made a mistake, putting someone like Chuuya in the world—someone so far beyond everyone else that the word beautiful is no longer applicable to anyone but him. It’s like Chuuya exists to make the rest of the world look unfinished—half-formed and poorly made by comparison.
Some days, Dazai’s convinced Chuuya’s beauty is some sort of cosmic punishment for something he did in a past life. How cruel he must have been to deserve this—to see something so perfect and know it will always be out of his reach. To know that anyone else he finds will just be second best. It makes Dazai feel like he’s been let in on some divine secret, only to be told he can never have it.
All this to say, Dazai is left absolutely dumbfounded when Chuuya turns to him, early morning light seeping through the bedroom curtains and bathing his face in golden hues, and asks, "Do you think I'm ugly?"

Summary
At 15, Dazai and Chuuya met and immediately got stuck in each other’s orbit. Now, 10 years later, they’re still stuck together like glue even though they’ve both had plenty of chances to go on their own separate paths.
At 15, Dazai never dared to speak what he truly thought when he looked at Chuuya, but now at 25, he has no issue voicing his adoration aloud.

He paused.
There in the grass, stained red and mocking him with its delicate innocence, was a pink petal.
Or, Dazai is only sixteen when he begins coughing up flowers. It takes him eight years to find a cure.
