"Shall I wait for the official protocol to be called, or can I just volunteer?" he called out, aiming his words straight at Metal, staring her in the eyes from where he stood. "I could also wait if you wish me to, but personally, I'd rather be past it if you don't mind."

The little wagon trundles up the path to the citadel carrying it's grim cargo swathed in white. Fréaláf comes to stand beside her as it jostles to a halt and steps forward to look before stepping sharply away just as quickly.

After seeing War of the Rohirrim I became a little obsessed and absolutely loved the characters. This is a little scene that takes place well after the War of the Long Winter and several years into Fréaláf's reign. He receives a minor wound in an unexpected skirmish and his wayward cousin is quick to return to his side. Please note I absolutely do not ship them. They are close and I liked how warm and natural the physical affection Héra showed her family was so I carried it into this.

Héra's cousin has offered to abdicate the throne should she ever marry and produce an heir to the line of Helm, unfortunately for him Héra has her heart set against marriage, so he will need to ensure the line of kings himself. Unfortunately for him being king of a wartorn country with empty coffers and not even a golden hall to boast of makes finding a willing and suitable bride difficult. Luckily Héra is more than willing to help him out a bit.
Yes, this is stupidly long. There is a lot of detailed world building and two adults having a fairly healthy relationship with open communication and decent problem solving skills.
I can't believe I have to say this but please no soliciting for fanart commissions in the comments. Also, I have noticed that there are some very inconsistent spellings of certain Gondorian cities. I write this mainly between 4-6am before work and sometimes things slip past me. One day I'll go back and edit.
