Summary
Batman and the rest of his family filled out a rather tumultuous timeline. The road to finding a semblance of peace within a city as dreary and dangerous as Gotham is long and hard, regardless of how one looks at it.
When Batman first showed up on the scene, the people of Gotham couldn't quite bring themselves to believe that he was truly going to look out for them. You all know the story, they eventually come around, and one day, Batman brings in a cheerily colored child that stuck out like a sore thumb, but brought a distinct sense of warmth to his crusade. And more would follow.
But not every universe follows that sequence. Dick Grayson was the light, Bruce's perfect contrast, slowly darkening as time went on, but never fully losing that light. His upbringing and personality were immensely different from that of his siblings. So what would happen exactly, if Dick wasn't the first to be introduced as Batman's sidekick? What if that light, as part of an accidental time rift, just happened to be born later than it should have been? Does that make things better? Does that make things worse?
Reverse Robins AU! First focuses on Damian as the oldest and how that changes things.

Summary
If there's one thing you can say about the citizens of Gotham City, it's that they're batshit crazy. If there's a second thing you can say about the citizens of Gotham City, it's that they're a very determined bunch. Not that they have much choice in that regard, you need to be a wholly different level of stubborn to willingly live in a city like this, and they acknowledge that completely. But that doesn't mean the city doesn't have it's lights in the darkness, so to speak.
Hope. That's what Robin stood for. Without Robin, did hope still remain? Maybe. But no one seemed very willing to risk finding out.
Robin knows they survived long before he came on the scene, and would continue long after he was gone. Batman knew what he was doing, had managed without him before, and would likely prefer to manage without him going forward. And so here he was, in Jump City. Doing just fine, thank you very much.
In which the citizens of Gotham try every method under the sun to try and coax Robin back into the fold. None of them are particularly ethical, but was that really all that surprising?

“Damian,” Bruce says, very slowly, “do you know someone named Jason Todd?”
Damian frowns at him. “No?”
“Real tall guy,” the Joker suddenly pipes up from the holding cell, “white streak in his hair. Kinda looks like Bruce Wayne, if you ask me!”
Damian blinks. “Oh. Well, I do know a Jason that fits that description, but his last name is not Todd.”
“What the hell is it then?”
Damian frowns harder. “Al Ghul.”
And just like that, Bruce’s worldview goes to complete and utter shit.

Or: Jason decides that if someone has to be a monster in this world’s shadows, it might as well be him. This decision might’ve been influenced by the fact that Talia al Ghul decided to spring her son on him and also gaslight everyone into believing that Jason is her eldest child. Also, he kills his pseudo-grandfather and kind of accidentally becomes the new R’as al Ghul, because by now, he’s way too deep in Talia’s con-shit to back out.
…It all goes over surprisingly well.
