“Believe it or not–I quite like you, Shikamaru,” Naruto said, leaning against the door, utterly relaxed in his ridiculous, pompous mansion. Shikamaru bit back an instinctive retort, choosing to listen. “You are intelligent, skilled, astute and pretty handsome, too. But liking you is as far as I can go. We know this marriage is a sham so let’s not pretend like it’s anything but, alright?”
The irritation he felt was instant. Naruto spoke as if he expected Shikamaru to be disappointed. He would show the Uzumaki just how mistaken he was.
“I’m not the one who dropped the honorifics, Naruto-san,” he replied, voice tight but clear. “And, unless my memory serves me wrong, weren’t you the one who kissed me in front of all those people just a few hours ago?”
“I did so for both our sakes and you know it,” Naruto said with heated emotion. “So don’t you dare throw it in my face, Shikamaru-san.”
