It’d made him pick up his phone and text without concern for embarrassment anymore, even if Shane was right—he’d just had it a few hours ago. But he wanted more, craved it now.

“Do you think you’ve ever let yourself be…” Shane trailed off, as if searching for the right word. The pause made Ilya’s heart rate speed up, “seen?” Shane asked finally, his words achingly gentle. Ilya’s absent-minded movement stopped.
“I don’t know what that means,” Ilya said reflexively as the unfamiliar phrase was hurled at him.
“Understood,” Shane corrected quickly, “just really truly understood.”

No amount of preparation, bracing, or even psychic omens would have helped Shane in predicting the next words that came out of Ilya’s mouth.
“You would not love me if I was a worm” said Ilya in the smallest voice, he sounded on the brink of tears nay he was tearing up.
In hindsight, Shane thanks every power in the universe that he did not even let out the smallest of chuckle much less a guffaw at Russia’s greatest love machine, terror on ice, bisexual terminator Ilya uttering those words to him.
Or Forehead kisses and morning wishes are a perfect recipe for domestic bliss. But not many realize that underneath it all also exist the gritty realities of gloomy days that leave hearts aching.
