(For the record, James still has no idea how it all came to pass. He has no idea how the unidentifiable something between him and Jack Sparrow - James isn’t going to call it hate and he sure as hell isn’t going to call it rivalry and there’s, frankly speaking, no good word in the languages he knows that would describe his feeling towards the Captain in all their complexity of disgust, annoyance and maybe the smallest trace of admiration over the stories James used to hear about - shifted into something just as unidentifiable and yet remarkably different. If he’s being honest with himself, he doesn’t really want to know.)

“Breathe,” Chuuya says. “This is gonna hurt like a bitch.”
Dazai’s lips twitch. “Doesn’t Chuuya have anything for me to bite on?”
Chuuya pauses despite himself. “…I thought that,” he starts, then stops. He clears his throat, eyes flicking briefly to the floor before coming back to Dazai’s face. “Because of Dostoyevsky. I thought maybe—”
Dazai waves one hand dismissively, the motion weak but sharp with irritation. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because that holier-than-thou demon’s been leaving me gagged for days, you think I wouldn’t want anything in my mouth.”
He grins when he says it. It’s a perfect imitation—angle of the mouth, familiar lilt—but his eyes are flat, glassy in a way that has nothing to do with humor. “I don’t,” he adds. Then, after a beat: “I also don’t want Chuuya to hear me scream.”
or: dazai gets kidnapped and tortured. chuuya gets him back, and realizes that care is just another kind of exposure. the kiss might be a mistake. or it might not. it’s also inevitable.

Summary
When he thinks back on it now, what Dazai remembers the most is how listless he was. He hadn’t cried. He hadn’t felt anything. It had felt more like following a line of thought to its natural conclusion—what happens if I do this?
He remembers the sensation registering dimly, more pressure than pain at first, and the strange disappointment when it didn’t immediately turn into something bigger, something clarifying. He remembers the blood, too, sticky and warm and everywhere.
The adults around him had panicked in a way that made no sense to him, voices rising, hands shaking, someone yelling his name like it mattered. Dazai had watched it all from a careful distance, mildly confused by the urgency, wondering why this was what finally made them react.
or: Rain makes it worse. The migraines leave Dazai half-blind, nauseous, and barely verbal. Chuuya comes to yell at him and instead finds something he wasn’t supposed to see.
