OR
An alternate path where Odysseus offers their devotion in exchange for mercy, and to avoid any more men dying. Once everyone agrees, the gods pick among the group and hijinks ensue.

“Captain, what exactly happened when we encountered..him..?” Odysseus’ body stops moving and instead stand in place with stiff limbs, his eyes widened with his pupils shrinking and perhaps they were even shaking at some point.
But not because he was listening to what his right hand man had asked of, but what he was currently looking at in the distance of the blurry sky from a great far away.
Only one of his hands twitch at the sight of two familiar gods making a ruckus in the middle of the ocean, yet so far away that they were barely visible to the eye.
Odysseus, for once, might have fucked up once again, he fears

“You Gods love playing games, don’t you?" Odysseus had a wild spark in his eyes. “Then let’s play, Poseidon. First one to beg loses. If I win, you let me go free. If you win, I'll stay your prisoner, and you can do whatever the hell you want with me.”
Poseidon stared at Odysseus for a long moment, and in an instant something finally clicked into place.
“You’re crazy, aren’t you?” Poseidon realized.

Odysseus chooses to sacrifice himself to Zeus at the end of Thunder Bringer, but Poseidon intervenes, determined to be the one to kill Odysseus. Together they go on the run, and Poseidon decides he must execute Odysseus in front of all of Ithaca to redeem his reputation. In order to save himself from Poseidon’s wrath, Odysseus realizes he has only one way out of this: he needs to seduce the God of the Ocean.
But what happens when schemes for survival and revenge turn into actual feelings...

Summary
Nerris doesn't need anyone, not really. He talks to Gale, he loves Gale; and Jaheira at least seems to tolerate him, and that’s that. Not like any of their merry band of weirdos seems to want to be friends with him anyway. But it matters not. Nerris was born under a killing moon and everyone is right to keep their difference. At least he has Gale.
Except then Gortash happens. And “I rather think you've done enough” sounds awfully like I'd rather you just leave me alone and suddenly it seems like he has no one at all.
In a desperate attempt to regain favour, the Dark Urge Nerris puts himself under increasing strain and suffers for it. Despite his assumptions, everyone cares for him anyway.
