Finally, the kid comes closer, letting Tim get a good look at him when he faces him again. His blood freezes when he meets a set of almost icy blue eyes, the familiarity settling into something definitive.
"Jason," The kid says--no, Jason Todd says, nodding up at Tim in a way he's never been able to do, on account of normally being two years older, not practically a brat.
The shortest mathematical distance between two places is a straight, flat line. The longest distance, between anything and everything, is time.
Tim would have preferred the shorter one, but he doesn't really have a choice in taking the scenic route.
(The unstoppable force of time itself meets the immovable object of Bruce Wayne's adoption instincts. It does not like the odds.)

ORTim runs away thinking no one will notice or really care, and Jason scrambles to pick up the pieces and bring him home. With the help of his menacing sister, his newest but hilarious little brother, a reformed rogue and a chaotic witch boy with his cat that's definitely not a cat, nothing can go wrong. Probably. Maybe.
Whatever happens, there'd better be coffee.
