“I’ve got an announcement!” Sevika says with a clap, waiting for the stragglers to either stop chit chatting or working out. “We all know we struggled to get balls in the net last year. It’s been an ongoing issue for years, frankly. And I know Ahri and Gwen did their best last season but I think it all goes without saying we need an extra… push. Which is why I’m grateful– and you all better be too, no fucking lip about this– that we managed to snag Ionia’s Caitlyn Kiramman for her last season.”
She stands just behind Coach now, like she’d been waiting to make her entrance. Her face is the same cool and collected set of perfect angles and smooth skin Vi’s always known it to be. She wears a small smile and the uniform jacket carrying Piltover’s sigil at the heart, hair tied pack in a pony tail– one Vi knows how it feels to tug in the palm of her hand, the teasing gesture always met with a fond eye roll.
Blue eyes that used to ground her now shake the very earth beneath her.
“Y-you don’t mean that.”

Summary
When Caitlyn Kiramman saved the life of a Zaunite girl, she never expected to see her again. Their lives had never meant to collide to begin with, and yet they had. Vi scoffed and stomped forward, the gravel crunching beneath her feet as she approached Caitlyn, who looked up at her with an empty, disinterested expression.
She stopped right in front of her, chest puffed out, voice dripping with venom.
“Good lord, Kiramman, maybe pace yourself for once. What’s the plan? Smoke yourself into an early grave so we don’t have to deal with you anymore?”
Caitlyn’s head jerked slightly, her features a cool mask of indifference.
“Though I am flattered by your concern," she said icily, taking a slow, deliberate drag from her cigarette, “I assure you that I am perfectly capable of handling myself, thank you very much.”
“Oh, yeah? Is that why you’re here?”
Caitlyn slightly perked one of her eyebrows. The look on her face made Vi immediately feel incredibly stupid and childish.
“No. I am here to smoke a cigarette. In peace. Why are you here?”

powder is chaos in human form—loud, smart-mouthed, and newly admitted to the hospital for leukemia. she’s also the little sister of vi: an overworked, sleep-deprived eighteen-year-old who’s practically raising her siblings on her own while juggling two jobs and drowning in hospital bills.
vi is everything caitlyn’s not—messy, impulsive, and heartbreakingly real. she shouldn't care. she shouldn’t want more.
but soon, caitlyn finds herself looking forward to lunches with powder, hallway run-ins with vi, and late-night thoughts she can’t quite shake. and vi? she never thought she’d meet someone who looked at her like she wasn’t just barely holding it all together.
in a place where life is fragile and nothing is guaranteed, falling for someone feels like the biggest risk of all.
but maybe some rules are meant to be broken.
