Bates inclines his head. “If you don’t mind waiting for about an hour?”
“Oh, no, not at all.” The stranger's smile turns just this side of smug, and the twist to his lips is suddenly so overwhelmingly familiar Bates feels close to having a déjà vu.
“Well, then-” He turns around, away from that smile and the sudden urge to go down to the wine cellar and see if there are any bottles missing – he’s imagining it, right? It couldn’t be. But it’s enough to make him ask: “After you, Mr. …?”
“Barrow.”
