Penelope rolls her eyes. "Yes, your brother the Viscount. I am familiar with him."
"Hush," Colin retorts. "Benedict informed me this evening that Anthony… once had a mistress."
She blinks at him for a moment in confusion, which he seems to take more as an expression of shock and he barrels forward before she has a chance to reply.
"Before Kate of course!" he clarifies in a rush. "Well before they met even, but it is still rather confounding, is it not?"
Penelope lets out a half huff, half chuckle sort of sound and leans her head back against the headboard to look her husband over for a moment. "Are you honestly telling me you were unaware that Anthony had a mistress?"
Colin's jaw drops slightly before his eyes narrow. "You knew?"

He stares at her for a moment, the ghost of his laughter clinging to his lips. His full, rose-pink lips. And then he opens them, and out comes the sweetest honey. “May I have the next dance, Miss Sharma?” Kate’s mouth drops, and she feels a flush zip up her spine. Never mind that she really, truly does want to dance with this stranger, wants to feel those arms brush against her, his hands around her own, have him smile at her.
“What makes you think I would accept the offer from a rake as such as yourself?”
He tucks his chin to his chest, and the way his grin makes her heart thump is really, terribly, unfortunate.
“I assure you, Miss Sharma, any liberties shared with my sister are not as cunning or as evil as you are imagining, and what with my mother out hunting her this very moment, I believe there are bigger issues to worry ourselves over for Eloise's sake.” He finishes, leaning slightly in, “wouldn’t you agree?”

Anthony arrives to the season a little later than expected, and Kate finds herself charmed by a pleasing smile, what chance did they have? Anthony isn't looking for a wife, but may have accidentally found one, anyway.
