Summary
Neteyam has to live with the expectations of the whole world; the perfect football captain to his teammates, the perfect son to his parents and the perfect role model to his siblings. He doesn’t know for how much longer he can keep the mask up but he knows he’s damn good at it. Any opportunity to make himself seem greater than he already is, he’ll take it. Even if its at the expense of his own sanity.
Ao’nung is a rising swimmer, making himself known to the school in his first year. He has dreams to uphold and a clear set path towards them. He’s focused, determined and not ready to deal with anyones bullshit. He doesn’t care if there’s a new member on the team, no matter how tall and seemingly perfect he is, he doesn’t care.
Or,
Neteyam feels himself slowly descend into an identity crisis after meeting ao’nung - ao’nung with all his grace and beauty and captivating aura that holds neteyam in a chokehold that he struggles everyday to get out of.

Shaken, Jake takes his family and runs. Now, Neteyam has to deal with his trauma in a completely foreign environment. He has to pretend that everything is fine, and learn, no, perfect the ways of the Metkayina people. Neteyam doesn't let himself lean on his family; he needs to be strong. He thinks he may just fall apart under the pressure, and he will do so without being seen.

When he came out of his thoughts his breathing had regulated and Neteyam was looking at him with the most innocently confused look on his face. “Ao’nung?” He asked, reaching out to touch his arm. “Lost you there for a second. Are you alright?”
His eyes were wide and concerned, pouty lips curved downward endearingly.
Ao’nung coughed and fixed his shirt, flustered. It was a foreign feeling to Ao'nung. “Ah, yeah- yeah I'm good. Come on, let me buy you a drink.”
Neteyam was clearly pleased at this answer. He smiled slowly, nodding his head. “Okay.”
