Officer Wickham snapped to attention, face turning red as the words finally spilled out of them. “During a routine patrol, we found your daughters in one of the former mining districts - a dangerous and restricted area - operating experimental tech without proper licensing.”
A gale of various emotions raced through Caitlyn simultaneously, nearly taking her off her feet with the force of it all. The first concern managed its way out first. “Are they alright?”
Wickham nodded quickly. “No injuries, Ma’am. But they are being detained now at the station. I’m sorry, of course, but it’s protocol no matter who - ,”
Caitlyn shook her head, cutting him off as she squeezed her eye shut and pinched the bridge of her nose. Of course asking the two of them to behave themselves with total freedom to escape the manor had been too hefty of a request. And of course they would have picked the most dangerous way to completely ignore said request. And of course it was the fucking hoverboards --

With a groan of effort and pain, Vi sits up, then drags herself onto one knee before finally planting a heel against the platform and forcing herself to her feet. She sways, but keeps her footing. Then she starts to run.
Vi finds Caitlyn in the wake of the battle, and looks after her whilst reflecting on their journeys and losses.

It all started with a note - written in the ugliest handwriting Caitlyn had ever seen.
"I used your bed. Funny fact, you smell like cupcakes."
In the break room, they had six beds distributed for use among shifts. But Caitlyn's bed wasn't part of that set. No, she had bought a seventh piece of furniture with her own money - with a mattress specifically made for her shoulder and lower back pains.
Everyone knew they shouldn't lie down there. Except, apparently, the new hire.
As a first offense, Caitlyn decided to let it slide, with a simple note on the bed.
"Property of Caitlyn Kiramman."
Maybe the mistake had been due to ignorance, after all. Although, three days later, to her complete displeasure, came her response.
"Good to know you have a name, Cupcake. PS: your mattress is really good."
