Summary
Hidden from the world above, the different races of merfolk thrived within the ocean realm- that is, until the race of men appeared. When humans discovered that mythical creatures such as mermaids and mersharks were real, true flesh and blood beings that lived within the ocean depths, it sparked the wonder and amazement of millions. But the darker, greedier aspects of human nature soon emerged, and as time passed countless merfolk were captured or killed, hunted to near extinction.
Tucked away along the Scottish isles lived a tribe of Blacktip mersharks that managed to escape the negative impacts of man. Among those was a mershark who was quite different from the rest, one who, at times, had a propensity to let his curious, adventurous nature overrule his better judgment. A character trait that had nearly gotten Soap killed in his youth by the human hunters his kind so despised.
To his shock, he was also saved by the very creatures he was taught to hate and fear, and Soap was left with the astounding discovery that not all humans were bad. But... some merfolk would never be swayed, and as two worlds collided, Soap's loyalty to those he loved would be tested in ways he never imagined.

Summary
There’s a teddy in Soap’s bed; a beaten-up, old brown bear. Well-loved, if the state of the fur is any indication. Ghost lets out a choked laugh, mostly at his own expense. He wishes he was there, suddenly, wishes he was by Johnny’s side as he walked through the doorway and realised that his childhood room was waiting for him like a time capsule. Wishes he got to see the embarrassed scrunch of his face, the way the tips of his ears would flush red.
Soap has a whole second life, outside of the SAS. He’s got a mother, and a poorly-decorated bedroom, and a bear. All Ghost has is a flat that will be the same it is today as it will be the day he dies, like he was never even here at all.

The thing no one really thinks about with running an empire is the paperwork. It’s all fun and games, drugs and guns and nice suits and fancy cars, good shit all around, but that all has to be grounded somewhere, and that grounding is fucking paperwork. Logbooks are a constant in his life, little black books of locations and deals and money changing hands. Neat shorthand plainly dictating the most recent weapons deal, the influx of protection payments, the fucking drink tab at the usual bar.
Could certainly change the world those things, especially in the wrong hands. He should know, he’s dealt with plenty of those greedy mitts personally, did it so much at one point that he genuinely considered the merit of a few old-fashioned sigils, chopped and pickled and hanging over his front fucking door. Tell them all exactly how he dealt with thieves.

Soap knows that consistent results come from strict respect of hierarchy. He knows that it doesn’t matter if Ghost is right. What matters is that he does what he’s told when he’s told to do it, and that he doesn’t threaten the integrity of their highly unprofessional working relationship by testing him unchallenged in front of others.
Ghost knows that, too. Though his anger management issues get in the way enough times that he could fuckin’ fool Soap.

Simon slides a book into place before turning around. The man in front of him is lean, worn thin, with bags like dusky thumbprints beneath his eyes. He’s swallowed by the massive black hoodie he’s wearing, his hands wedged deep into his pockets and his shoulders hunched.
For reasons he cannot begin to understand, Simon wants to crush this man into a tiny ball and then shove him into the mouth that gapes, screaming, around his own starved heart.
He doesn’t do that, obviously. He’s on the clock.
