Eddie didn't survive just to witness another tragedy unfold right before his eyes, even if he's partly responsible for it.
It sucks, but how could he have known that Steve would actually listen to him? No one ever should listen to his advice outside of D&D and music. Especially not when it comes to relationships.
He wants to rip his hair out every time he's reminded of his speech, for being so insanely stupid. It was self-defence, sure, but in hindsight, it did more harm that the truth ever could've.

Steve has to prove a point, there's nothing wrong with boys kissing boys. Even if proving it requires him to kiss Eddie in front of everyone. He refuses to have any of his kids be homophobic.

El puts up mistletoe at the Christmas party hoping to see a Christmas tradition. She'd meant it for Hopper and Joyce, but when Steve and Eddie are caught under the mistletoe, she's confused why they don't have to kiss. Steve doesn't mind proving that boys can kiss under the mistletoe too.
