“Merry Christmas! Or— Pre-Christmas!”
Jason stares at the teen on his doorstep. He’s tall, for one, towering over Jason with broad shoulders balanced on top of a lean physique. He’s ill-dressed for the cold, coat nowhere to be seen. Instead, he sports a white turtleneck layered under a jean jacket and a scarf.
His baggy jeans wear a different wash to the jacket, and Jason feels himself judging the amount of distress on them. No one actually wears real shredding like that unless they buy them that distressed.

Essek wakes one day to find a man he hardly recognises in his bed. One who answers to Bren and flinches from the sight of him. One who has no recollection of him or their friends.
Seperated by more than distance, Caleb wakes trapped in a cold tower. His parents are still alive and that should be a blessing but none of his friends remember him, especially the Shadowhand who may be his only hope of returning home.

Genuinely one of the most brilliant mighty nein fics I've read. Especially with essek and caleb's relationship and the depth of their understanding of one another. Time travel whatnot with Bren and Essek and Essek and Caleb. Stunning. Made me cry more times than I can count. Such beautiful writing, and, devastatingly soul-searching'ly wonderful.

Summary

Essek is arrested for treason. Verin and the Mighty Nein say no thank you. Also a glorious kid!fic. Genuinely one of the best 'Essek is taken back to the dynasty' and 'Verin helps the Nein save Essek' fics I've read. Wonderfully written and very fun to see Verin integrated into the family of the MN.

Humming in interest, Caleb sucks, slowly. Oh, it’s nice. It’s very nice. The suction is replaced by the smooth edges of teeth, distinctly felt as they drag over the flesh.
