After years and years of running, McQueen's pre-OP races are nothing but mere warm-ups. She has faith in her trainer’s words and most of all, she has faith in herself. She has been on the track for as long as she can remember and at this point, she has no doubts about winning. Even as cold sweat drips down her neck, she doesn’t feel unease from the race ahead of her.
What’s truly eating her up inside is what awaits after; how well-fucked, as Gold Ship had crudely put it, she’s going to be if she places first.
And they both know she will.

Gold Ship sneaks a glance at McQueen. Even with the stupid lump in her throat, she wills herself to face her.
McQueen looks ecstatic. And Gold Ship’s heart breaks a little at the sight.
