He steps in front.
A shot reverberates through the clearing, and he flinches. Nobody breathes. You could cut the quiet with a fucking butterknife. Eddie releases a shuddering breath and pats down his chest, hands shaking so bad that he probably wouldn’t feel it even if he were hit. He falls to his knees when they come back clean.
Nancy stands there, gun jerked high with wide eyes. She pants, swallowing thickly before fury breaks her calm. “Eddie?! What the hell are you doing-!”
“IT’S STEVE!!” Eddie shouts. His arms shake as the Demowolf bleeds sluggishly behind him. “IT’S STEVE! IT’S STEVE GODDAMN'T!!”

Taking the serum hadn't been easy; the liquid had burned as it spread through him, rewriting every cell. But nothing in his past could have prepared him for this. None of it could make what was happening now any easier. Because this time, he was changing, and unlike last time, he had no idea what waited on the other side.

When he’s inadvertently slotted in a new team of ex-mercenaries and reformed assassins after the showdown in New York, he figures this is as good a second, er, third chance as he is going to get. He can’t fuck up anymore.
There were a few kinks to that plan, however. Namely, Bob. Always hovering, always present, always off-kilter. And Walker doesn’t know where he slots into the equation. It messes up his equilibrium.
So when an off-world sorcerer comes in and ties their fates into one, Walker is forced to confront his new reality, his feelings (scary), and then some. Chaos ensures. Because when has it ever been easy in his life?
