    Now though, the roles have switched. Now it was Jaskier, who was fully amused, hiding a smile behind his hand, as Yennefer was still muttering under her breath about how she will curse the damn bard to hell and back. He truly didn’t know why she wasn’t using common, since at this point he didn’t even need to understand Elder to know she was angry. But, just for the sake of it…
    “Yennefer, dearest wife, what are you muttering there?” he asked, and only his experience on stage saved him from his mouth twitching upwards, as she turned towards him, her violet eyes gentling in its stare minutely, as she tried to compose herself.
    “I was just saying, that this friend of yours is very talented” she answered, without a blink of an eye. Liar, Jaskier thought but decided to play that game.

    Or. Two times when Geralt and Yennefer discovered that Jaskier knows Elder by accident, and one when he used it on purpose.

    Geralt is cast in a brooding horror, while Jaskier romps his way through a farcical comedy. Which wouldn't be unusual, if they weren't in the same story. With his Witcher missing and his feathers most thoroughly ruffled, Jaskier will have to be, shall we say, creative when fending off the various blaggards he runs into. Meanwhile, Geralt is about to have a front-row seat to exactly how his bard keeps himself safe when he’s not around. Only one of them is having fun. Two characters, two genres, one story.

    “Then why are you stiff?” Yennefer asks.

    “Oh, nothing, just a few too many days on the road. You know me- human, and all that, it doesn’t matter, I shall get going to the tavern and leave you two to your very fun business exploring each others’ bodies-"

    But before Jaskier has the chance to finish his statement, Yennefer’s hand is sneaking beneath his tunic and yanking it up, undoing the buttons on his doublet with a flick of the finger-

    And revealing bruises painted across his torso with far less precision than artists in Oxenfurt wield their brushes. The difference between villagers and their fears of the unknown and how they stain across every stranger they meet and those taught art by the best teachers in the land, Jaskier supposes.

    Yennefer’s expression snaps from smirk to scowl instantly, just as quickly as Geralt rises to his feet, going to his bag. “Who did this to you?”

    (When some villagers accompany their coin with a lesson for bards who associate themselves with Witchers, Jaskier is ready to tuck himself away from the temptation of touch from a Witcher and a sorceress he is sure don't care about him.

    Said sorceress and Witcher might have something to say about that.)

    Over the years, Jaskier gets a reputation amongst witchers as the guy who will get you out of bind if you need him to. He’s the witchers’ bard, after all. Need a hand with your injuries? A safe place to hide? A friendly face? Find Jaskier.

    Jaskier, on the other hand, has no idea why witchers in trouble keep bumping into him on the road, but fate is funny that way, isn’t it? He’s certainly not going to turn them away
