Colby knew him better than ghosts ever could. He knew Sam’s laugh, the real one and the forced, knew Sam’s fears, wants, dreams, regrets. Knew his secrets (most of them anyway). Knew his breathing and the beat of his heart, the crease of his smile and the blue of his eyes. Colby would know if Sam was hurt, or scared, or lying. He always knew.

Colby sighed, lifting the shaking blonde gently up and tugging him closer, pulling their sleeping bags together and wrapping his arms around Sam’s frail body.
“Colby?” Sam croaked out, his voice shattered. Colby squeezed him and answered, “Yeah man, it’s me.” Sam relaxed slightly, his body molding perfectly against Colby’s and he nuzzled closer.
