In it, perhaps, he could build the world he never had. A world untouched by betrayal, unburdened by power.
Or maybe… he’d dream of what came after. Where he no longer had to be good or wise or anything at all.
Perhaps he’d see them again there, Eternal Sugar, Mystic Flour, Burning Spice, Silent Salt; shadows of themselves, softer, kinder.
But maybe not.
It didn’t matter.
The dream would be his.

Summary
That day on the roof, Lin Ling had jumped after Nice in desperation. Nice, being a hero, should’ve been able to save him. No one else needed to die along with him, after all. But his momentary lack of faith in himself locks his powers, and Nice is left with yet another heavy weight on his shoulders.
Nice lives. Lin Ling dies.
Unwilling to live with yet another regret, Nice turns to Fear to revive Lin Ling and turn him into a haunting reminder of his impotence as a hero.

Season 1 spoilers! Final installment of the trilogy.
The Commission is closing in. And Fate is tightening the noose around his neck. X has no choice but to stick to the same flimsy strategy he's been following this whole time—feign apathy. Throw away his civilian life and pretend nothing in the world mattered to him so the forces controlling the heroes in the Tower can't get a grip on him.
It's not a solution—only a stopgap. He can only buy time as he waits and observes the other heroes trapped in Fate’s web, searching for an opening.
Eventually, X thinks he finds one.
The Commoner isn't supposed to exist.
And Nice wasn't fated to die by his own hand.
