Lando scoffed. "Nah, mate. Who cares about what happened in Russia and how I was this close"—he pinched his fingers together—"to winning my first ever F1 race. Tell me about you. You're a fucking—" He stopped, eyes widening. "—prince. You're a prince." He cringed immediately, like the swear had escaped on its own.

Lando doesn't like it when Oscar knows too much about his doings. It's nothing Oscar has to concern himself with, he always says, kisses him on the forehead and orders the staff to make his favourite food for dinner, whenever Oscar gets the tiniest bit upset about always being left in the dark about Lando’s… business.

“Well you sucked at it.” Lando laughs, “But I accept. I’ll shake on it and everything.” Lando extends a hand, and Oscar takes it. “Is this always how you make friends? I like it though. Just as long as I didn’t sell my soul, or something.”
“You did, actually. Eternal damnation in exchange for a friendship with Oscar Piastri.”
“Sounds like a good deal to me.”
When Lando and Oscar meet at Alex's party, they are just friends-- Oscar has a boyfriend, and Lando has just healed from old wounds. But lying to themselves will only work for so long, especially when you add meddling friends, a weird little brother, two unexpected job offers, and the sandwich that killed Elvis into the mix.

Not the quiet, intimare aftermath —the way he stayed curled against Lando, silent and warm, like letting go would undo him. The arrangement had been clear: just enough to get them through.
The season moves on like nothing happened —races, flights, briefings. Oscar is steady as ever, focused and quiet. But Lando still feels it, stumbles through, half-aware, towards something that feels bigger than either of them planned for. Something that might not be temporary at all.

Oscar, however, is less impressed with his new life as a gilded, suffocated pet project. Saving Oscar from tragedy might be the easy part. Saving him from Lando’s love? That’s the real work.
