A test rocket launch gone wrong, Senku ended up on the wrong side of the law. Seeing potential in him as a Class 3-E Assassin, Karasuma gave him a deal: Come to Kunugigaoka. Try and kill Koro-sensei. Your criminal record is erased.
He agreed on one condition: Yuzuriha got a chance to transfer to Kunugigaoka too. She wanted a chance to use the prestigious academy's Art Club's resources.
Yuzuriha sighed dreamily, “Wow… the two of us, at Kunugigaoka! Are you sure you don’t wanna come, Taiju?”
Taiju shook his head, “No offense, but I don’t really like the look of some of the students?? They give me the heebie jeebies. Let’s just hang out after school!”
“Really? They seem friendly enough to me.” Yuzuriha considered, tapping her chin.
It was only later did she learn that Taiju was spot on. Except it wasn’t just the students.

Turns out when Gen is at the forefront anytime the Kingdom of Science needs to pull off a Caper, people tend to build up a healthy distrust of the guy. Which is not good, especially with humanity growing by the day, and clearly on the radar of Why-Man, should he ever choose to make a move before the rocket gets completed.
Hence, after a film festival visit that was completely misconstrued, the perfect idea came to mind: Against all odds, people actually like Senku. And they like the idea of love pushing people to do incredible things.
Love does push people to do incredible things. Such as pretending to date your partner in crime to better his image while pretending you don't have a shit personality as well.

“I have heard of this,” Ruri says softly, crouched beside the worktable. Her fingers hover just above the broken glass shards, careful not to touch. Gen holds the cloth open in his palms, revealing both the fractured remnants and the single, perfect star. They shimmer in the bright sunlight. “Though there hasn’t been a case in the village in years. It’s not a common disease. More of an old story, really.”
Gen watches her carefully. “But a real one?”
She nods slowly. “As far as we’ve been able to tell. It’s said to be driven by extreme emotions, ones the body can’t contain. The tears turn solid. Crystallize.” She pauses, then adds, “Not always into shapes like this, though. That part is…new.”
Gen’s eyes drop to the star again, impossibly clear and cold in the sunlight. It looks more like a snowflake carved by hand than anything that should come from a human body.
“How odd it is that it’s our dear Senku who developed it then,” Gen says lightly.

So really, was it a surprise that he ended up emotionally repressed? And really, does it even matter that he's not sleeping well if he reaches his goal? So yeah, he has no intentions of showing one millimeter of vulnerability.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you ask) for him, his friends have other plans.tldr: An 8+1 in which Senku falls asleep on different people and gets the much needed comfort he deserves

"Are you scared?" Why-man asks, their unclear face leaning towards his. Senku tries to pull away but finds himself unable to. Their static voice vibrates in his ear, "Are you surprised?"
'Why would I be?"
He can practically feel the pitying look why-man sends him, though it feels more cruel rather then genuine pity. Senku opens his mouth before he suddenly gasps.
And awakens in his shitty bunk, where he is still definitely injured. He groans and wants to slam his head against the wall. The dream may be a cause of concern but you know, a dude has more important concerns at the moment. Like his ex(?) mentor and his trigger happy friend.
Ishigami Senku has been craving monsters and a fuckton of ibeupfron, instead he gets sniped because somehow that's more likely in the Stone Age.
TLDR; Senku is just trying to find out who the why-man is, but as he learns more and more he finds himself regretting it.
