    In which I attempt to answer the question: what if Thorin and Bilbo met before the formation of the Company? How does their first meeting change when there is no dangerous quest looming over them? (A partial AU where most of the canon events happen the same way except they are married the entire time).

    I have all ten chapters outlined and most of them will include prompts from a Year of Bagginshield. Expect updates about once a month (I hope!).

    Twisted by the effects of dragon sickness, Thorin banishes not only Bilbo but the entire company from Erebor. Days pass with no word from their missing leader and, fearing the effects the gold may have on the other dwarves, Bilbo decides to enter the mountain alone in search of Thorin.

    What he finds may not be Thorin for much longer.

    Or: In which the dragon sickness is slowly transforming Thorin into a dragon, and Bilbo must save him before it is too late.

    So Bilbo finds himself returning to the halls under the mountain as Erebor celebrates its rebirth —and finds that peace is a stranger to those who have spent too long surviving.

    Bilbo has lived through the canonical Hobbit and quietly raises Frodo in Bag End, when something sends him back to the winter when his parents died. It seems he has been given a new chance at everything, but how long will his good luck last...?

    Trigger Warning: Bilbo will remember uncomfortable things (character death, characted hurt, some scary situations).

    Safety Net: No major character dies in his new life. If you see a character's name listed, that character will not die.

    This story contains kisses and battle wounds, in no particular order. There is also background betting, card games, and pipe smoking, as well as direct transcripts from the movies (Jackson & Walsh & Boyens, 2012, 2013, 2014) and direct quotations from the book (Tolkien, 1937, 1951, 1995).

    When Mahal himself offers to send Thorin back to the start of the quest to save the line of Durin, he is determined to make amends for all of the mistakes he made the first time around.

    When Bilbo wakes up in Bag End eighty years in the past, all he knows is that he has somehow been given the chance to see his beloved dwarves again and he'll be damned if he doesn't take it.

    Both dwarf and hobbit are desperate to prevent the quest from ending in tragedy, but neither will be able to do it on their own. They'll need to work together if they want to keep the entire Company alive and whole --but first they need to realize that they are not alone in their efforts, and they have to stop getting in each other's way at every turn they make.

    Hopefully, they'll learn some things this time that they failed to learn before. And maybe, just maybe, they'll find their happy ending that both have been yearning for.
