But he always had this deep concern that after a bad game, when all eyes were on him, and people were just searching for anything they could to turn people against him, he would find something about him and Ilya—he even had nightmares about it.

Steve takes a deep breath and picks up the receiver, “Hello?”
The kitchen lights flicker once, so quickly that he convinces himself that he imagined it, and then there’s a crackling, a kind of static-y hiss against his ear, and the rasp of a voice, “Hey, I need, uh, police?”
There’s something familiar about the voice, something twitching at the back of his mind, the tip of his tongue, but Steve can’t quite place it.
“Hello? Anyone there? Please?” it comes again, laced with so much desperation that it has the back of Steve’s neck prickling uncomfortably, “I need- shit, I need help.”
