Summary

You sweep the room, adjusting your grip on the bag in your hand when you finally spot him. If you hadn’t known that something was wrong before coming over, the sight of him face down on his living room rug might have made you pause. Scared you even. Instead, you just stand at an angle to send your shadow over him.
“Why are you on the floor, Ricardo?” A blunt question aimed at his tense shoulders. They flex and relax in response, a ripple of movement down his back before he sighs.
“I can’t feel my leg.”
His words sit on your tongue for too long before you can swallow them. Turning acrid. And then, slowly, your head lowers into your hands.
“You have people who get paid for this,” you groan. Of course, it came to this. Of course. Years and years of agreeing to fix the shit he broke: phones, trackers, radios have led to this. Of course.
