Chiseled features full of amusement await me as my eyes finish the travel up the body standing by my side. It’s such a shame to admit, but it takes me a moment to connect the wires and put a name to the face. Recognition strikes when my gaze reaches his eyes. A unique pair of eyes that reminds me of childhood shenanigans on the beaches of Jersey. Vibrant blue irises; one of them interrupted by a swath of brown. I know him, of course I do. Hell, everyone knows him these days.

Summary
Athena lies in the dingy alley, body aching from head to toe, thinking she might have screwed up by leaving the foster home. But then, she remembers that her fate might not have been any different had she stayed. Whatever. It's done.
"You okay?" A boy asks as she's trying to get off the ground. Athena considers rolling her eyes, because really, does he need the answer to that question? But one of her eyes is swollen shut; the eyeroll would lose effect, so Athena shrugs. He comes closer and reaches a hand out to her, helping her to her feet. "I'm Nate," he says with a small, kind smile. It's a gesture she hasn't seen in a while and it stuns her for a minute. "You got a name?"
A beat. "Sure."
And when he laughs, Athena's lips want to follow along.
That's what she does, in the end. She follows along.
