I've also included reasons why authors might want to post them separately for their own benefit.

Summary
As I'm writing this, AO3 just announced a new limit on the number of tags that authors can add to their works. The limit is 75 total tags across Fandoms, Characters, Relationships, and Additional tags. The limit does not apply to Ratings, Warnings, or Categories.
This work is going to explain what a tag is, how it works on AO3, and what an author can do to limit their tags but still get the most use out of them. This work is aimed at authors on AO3, but readers might find it interesting as well.
This work is not going to tell writers how they should or should not tag. My goal is just to help authors make informed decisions for their own tagging preferences.

“I mean… yeah, let’s go with that in case this ends up on the news,” Siren shrugged, looking back at Tommy. “I kidnapped you, right?”
“Yeah, sure,” Tommy agreed, knowing that if they said he was kidnapped, it would keep people from getting suspicious of why he was seen in public with Siren. “Anyway, can I get the chicken nuggets happy meal, with a coke?”
or, how Tommy—who is not a hero, or a villain, or even a vigilante—saves the life of one of L'Manberg's most feared supervillains, and accidentally ends up becoming the resident doctor for every supervillain in town (and maybe gets a family along the way too).

Tommy's family are superheroes.
And he's totally fine with that, honest, but their job means they can't really see Tommy all that much. Or ever, really.
And then, one day, inspiration strikes: maybe if Tommy was a villain himself, he'd see them more often! What could possibly go wrong?Well. A lot, actually.
Turns out, being the bad guy is actually sort of fun. And Tommy's new villain friends are showing him that the city might need some changing.
