Simon nods at you. He’s tall enough that, at the angle your phone points, the slant of light only reaches his neck, face still obscured in shadow. You can make out, through the barest changes in shades of gray, the suggestion of a nose, the theory of a brow, hypothesis of the lips. Indistinct enough that you could not draw him, defined enough that you can recognize him.

There were supposed to be no secrets between you and Clark. He was your best friend, but you wished he were more than that. Your undying love for him wasn’t the only thing you kept behind your teeth, though. Just like him, you also had a double life. Not nearly as cool as his, but still, some people knew you as an average journalist, and others as an erotica writer, who was experiencing a horrible writer's block. Good thing Clark was always willing to help.

Henry playfully wrestles him to the ground, and their laughter shakes the trees. This is what life ought to be: easy and sweet and without any past or future. The rest of the world can hang for all Hans cares; all he wants is to make Henry laugh, and to turn him every shade of red possible.
“Shut up or I'll fill you up,” Henry threatens. “I’ll get a strong son on you.”
Something flutters in Hans’s chest. “I'm not a fucking maid, Henry.” He struggles a little more, just for show, and Henry pins his hands above his head.
“Could be,” Henry counters, grinning. “My maid, my girl, the way you take me.”
