Summary
Life for Steve Rogers is looking up. He’s in Brooklyn where he belongs, and has risen through the ranks to become a Fire Captain for the N.Y.F.D. Between his job and his found family, the only thing missing is someone to share this life that he’s built with.
When Steve’s sent up the ladder on his first call as Fire Captain to retrieve a cat, aptly named Alpine, he gets more than he bargained for. Relying on him for a rescue is none other than Bucky Barnes, his childhood best friend and the defining crush of his teenage years.
Once his feet are planted firmly on the ground, Steve realizes the embers of his crush from fifteen years ago are still smoldering. Will he be able to fan the old flame, or will it end up being just another fire for him to put out?

Warnings for: canon typical superhero violence, period typical (the period being present day) transphobia and homophobia. The existence of transphobia and homophobia are central to the plot, but there is no gratuitous detail of people being shitty. Extensive discussion of legislation against gender-affirming care (specifically: the characters are trying to stop such legislation).

Summary
To celebrate reaching a milestone in followers, I offered to write some thank you fics. Not surprisingly, most of my followers asked for smut. There is some other stuff here though, I promise.

Anon requested something from A Higher Form of War, specifically dealing with Steve's scars. I took that as both physical and otherwise.Wherein Steve's issues have issues, Bucky is the head cheerleader for Team Tony, and Tony does everything right.
Set a few months after the end of the main fic and years prior to the epilogue.
If you have not read that fic, I cannot imagine any of this will make a bit of sense.
Please note: This chapter deals with the aftermath of various traumas and issues that we would now identify as PTSD. It also deals with a prior encounter with Hammer that had non-con elements. Please be kind to yourselves and read (listen) accordingly.
