Ed is a demon. Normally, demons have a daemon familiar. Ed is too weak and summons a human called Stede instead. Unusually, Stede is very into the idea of being a familiar so that he can explore the demon world and document it for his research. They embark on a journey together trying to find Ed’s old mentor, Hornigold, who has gone missing. Along the way, they explore the land and its flora, fauna, demons and creatures.

"They tried to kiss me, Stede." He chuckled into the shell of Stede's ear and it sent another shiver down him.
"Oh?" Stede asked quietly, breathlessly.
Edward nodded and Stede could feel the movement of it against his neck, the soft brush of beard tickling him. "But I said, 'You're not the Gentleman Pirate!' and they sod right off."
Stede's heart and mind were both racing. "How interesting," was all he could manage in reply, and he felt Ed's arms tighten around him.
"Yeah, you are. Can't deny that."

Summary
“You’ve never been anything but–perfectly considerate, my love,” Stede manages weakly, staring straight up at the ceiling, flexing a hand in Ed’s hair. Ed can be impatient in bed, erratic, firm and greedy in his touches, but he’s always asked Stede from the first– Is this ok? Like this? Is it good? Am I hurting you?
“You’ve never hurt me, or…” His cheeks pinken slightly, “Well, beyond what I imagine is the normal amount of soreness the day after, of course, but…”
Ed grunts, and scrapes his teeth over the bone of Stede’s jaw in a way that makes him gasp and brings him right back to himself. Ed seems to freeze at the noise, fingers digging shakily into Stede’s hip. “But what if I wanted to?”
-------------------After a rough raid on another ship, Stede lets Ed express the Blackbeard side of himself a little more privately.

Summary
One summer day, two unlikely paths cross in the alley behind Bonnet Group’s towering skyscraper: Stede is at the end of his rope, and Ed’s just taking a smoke break. Of course, after they’ve become inseparable, Ed’s past catches up to him as Stede tries to find a way out of his own obligations, and the solace they’ve found in each other is threatened.
“You’re freaking out in here,” Lucius says, shutting the door behind himself. He grabs two rocks glasses from the bar cart and a decanter of the good whisky and sets it all on Stede’s desk.“Astute,” Stede declares. “I’ve asked Ed on a date.”
“Ooh, Mr. Mechanic?” Lucius simpers, and Stede blushes. “Haven’t you two been dating for weeks?”
“Wh—No, we’re friends!” He says.
“Oh, my God, you can’t be serious,” Lucius says.
