    Shane Hollander had a plan. It was a good plan, just as every other plan he’d ever made was a good plan. Then he watched a video of a burning plane carrying the love of his life and it became the only plan he’d ever changed.

    Shane goes to Tampa. The next morning, Troy Barrett receives a text from Ilya:

    “Bringing boyfriend to breakfast. Tell team to be not weird.”

    The Centaurs are, unsurprisingly, weird about it but become the best support system they could ask for as Shane and Ilya navigate the choice to fully begin their lives together and love each other out loud.

The footsteps continued to grow closer, and then Irina’s papa entered the kitchen. Shane dropped his jaw as they made eye contact– it was a face he never thought he’d see again.

    “Ilya Rozanov?”
    “Shane Hollander?”

     

    Or, canon divergent AU in which Ilya drops out of the NHL draft to play in Russia, but him and his daughter end up living next door to Shane many years later.

    “Good, well then that brings me to the real topic of conversation.” Another sigh from Coach Wiebe, “As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, those highlighted names have been offered rookie contracts and they’ve each expressed interest in living with a vet for their first year.”

    Ilya felt his heart fall into his stomach, afraid of the next words to come out of his Coach’s mouth.

    “We asked the rookies who they’d like to live with and, well, LaPointe wanted to board with you, Chouinard. And Young with you, Bood,” Wiebe then turned to Ilya who had frozen on the spot, “And Roz, Haas wants to live with you.”

    Bood and Chouinard chuckled as they watched Ilya’s eyes widen in horror.

    Luca Haas was drafted 2nd overall by the Ottawa Centaurs in 2018. Two years later, he anxiously moved halfway across the world to play his rookie season with the team. He requested to live with Ilya Rozanov and they slowly became family.
