Summary
James was looking nowhere except for Silas’ gun, tucked into his waistband. He would let Sherlock shoulder the mind games while he took the physical. He braced himself for a fight. He was ready to launch himself if he saw Silas move for the pistol. He didn't trust him in the slightest but he feared Sherlock might still have hope in his father. James wasn't going to give the older man another chance to betray his son.
But what Silas said next surprised him.
“Come walk with me, James.”
Sherlock jumped to his feet.
“Father-”“No need to fret, my dear boy, I'm only wanting a small chat.” Silas smiled.

“You need to learn how to stop me from hitting you in the nose.” James grinned.
At their first encounter, Sherlock couldn't stand that grin. Something had seemed off about it. Something Sherlock couldn't quite put his finger on. It was almost as though the other man was trying to show that he was better than Sherlock, smarter than Sherlock. It had intrigued him nonetheless.
He knew one thing for certain now though and it was that he wanted to wipe that smug look clean off his face.

Summary
James was cheeky and self assured. Both things Sherlock envied about his companion. Though he tried not to think on it too much. But James made that hard. It was as if he hadn't even the need to put any effort into adding a bit of cheekiness into a conversation. It seemed to just flow out of him with ease, without a thought about it.
Until he spoke with Sherlock that was. Sherlock didn't know why he always ended up with that different version of his friend. And he pondered that maybe that was the reason why. That James was his friend, nothing more and nothing less.

He ducked into a small alley that was nestled into a quieter side of the city. It was tucked away, as if it was meant to be hidden from view. He had heard rumors of this place. Many said it was too taboo to even look at it.
Johnny was the one who told him what part of town it was in. He had also warned the Scotsman to be mindful of who was around, both inside and out. They didn't need any of their officers hearing about where they took their business.Bill was nervous. He had never been to one of those types of establishments before. They were hard to find. They were dangerous to be associated with.
