Summary
After months together, hidden away at the Devil’s Den, Henry and Hans return to Rattay, where a harsher reality awaits them. The arranged wedding looms, and it seems impossible to continue their forbidden relationship, now that so many watchful eyes are set on them. To make matters worse, Bohemia falls ever deeper into chaos while somewhere in the shadows, a vengeful Erik waits for another chance to strike. It would be most prudent to bury their hopeless love for the sake of their duties.
But young hearts burn bright, and the lovebirds aren’t exactly known to make the wisest decisions.

Bartosch met his glower with defiance. “Every damn day.” Hans noticed with unease he was holding his chest and there was fresh red blooming on the bandages. “But I’ve made my peace with it. And if you have any sense in your head, so should you.”
Hans backhanded him. “Don’t presume to know me.”

After a drunken night in the bathhouse fumbling with the blacksmith’s boy, Hans Capon resolves to keep his hands to himself. But then a suave knight (and better poet) had to catch the eye of Bohemia’s favorite hero and suddenly Hans finds himself struggling to not repeat the sins of the past.
