Eoin’s life had become a darker kind of poetry since that first mad drop into the flying sand and wind, down into the dessert that was insatiably hungry for blood and bones.
Made darker still by his friends absence, like Eoin was missing a limb, Paddy nowhere to be found. But he knew that Paddy would hate it where Eion now was, trapped behind wire and watched by German guards with itchy trigger fingers, aloof in their alleged superiority in just the way that would have had Paddy clenching his jaw and breaking more heads on pianos.
