Harry is indeed inside the cupboard, the one under the stairs, and is laid the center of a glowing red runic circle. More runes are etched into the wooden panels and the sloping ceiling of the small, cramped space. The fifteen month old child is thankfully asleep, his chubby face streaked with dried tracks of tears and blood from the wound on his forehead.
Lily’s breath hitches and she instinctively reaches for him, but Petunia’s hand grips her wrist painfully before she could cross the barrier.
“Don’t be an idiot,” her sister hisses, not unkindly. “He’s somehow got a soul fragment lodged in his head. Take care of that first.”
