The mask had slipped off — cracked on impact with the ethereal floor of his universe. The detective before him began to shrink, subtly quivering underneath Patrick’s unforgiving stare.

    And when Patrick Hockstetter finally spoke, the finality of his now ended patience was evident. His voice had reverted. It had rescinded back to that familiar nasally sound he hadn’t put forth in years. A vocalization brought forth from the back of his throat. One that poured more through his nasal passages rather than his actual mouth.

    "Where is my girlfriend, Detective?" Patrick hisses
