Summary
Riddle wouldn’t meet his soulmate until his first year at NRC.
The entrance ceremony was already in full swing, and Riddle had been focused, listening intently to every word from his future professors, mentally noting every rule, every expectation.
Then someone grabbed his hair.
“It’s red, but it’s not hot!” an obnoxious voice said, tugging at the strands like a child testing a toy.
Riddle’s reaction was immediate, reflexive. Without hesitation, he drew his magic pen, set the boy’s sleeve ablaze, and promptly hurled him across the room.
Gasps filled the hall. Riddle was trembling with fury, vision narrowing. How dare he? Who the hell did he think he was?
It took two teachers to hold him back before he could lunge again. His heart pounded, magic sparking at his fingertips.
And then—finally—he looked.
The idiot who’d just ruined his first impression was grinning up at him from the floor, still half-smoking from the fire spell. And the moment their eyes met—
Riddle’s world exploded into color.

He blinked rapidly, the pressure behind his eyes building. “And I know you don’t think like that. I know it’s not conditional for you, but… I haven’t unlearned it yet.”
“I don’t say it,” Riddle whispered, “because I don’t want to say it wrong. Or say it when I’m scared, or not sure, or trying to be someone I’m not.”
“I want to say it when I can’t not say it. When it’s real. When it feels like mine.”

"You... A... what!?" Invigilator F squinted in disbelief.
You Huo, their Invigilator A, had a violation record!?
..."Maybe it was something minor?" 058 offered, "Maybe... I don't know... he accidentally spilled water on paperwork..."
"... Is that even a valid rule violation?"
"Who knows... But it is A we're talking about..." Invigilator F tried to reason, "No way it can be something major... at least, before they tried to, you know, take down the System..."
"Or maybe GIN did something and the System held A accountable..."
Qin Jiu tilted his head one way, then the other.
This was before he had joined the System as an invigilator... but he wasn't too sure when exactly he had been in here the first time, so he couldn't determine if he was an examinee at that point of time.
"Yeah... that's a good point... Maybe GIN broke a rule and knew he was out of attempts, and made it super flashy..."
"If he broke the rules, wouldn't you know!?" A hardliner asked, and the moderates shared a look, before turning back to the hardliners.
"Not really. We would have heard the something happened... but generally, since none of us can handle that bastard..." 058 gestured to Qin Jiu, "The System just kind of sends things off to A immediately..."
The hardliners made a noise of understanding. Perhaps this violation did have something to down with Qin Jiu...

Soon afterwards, it was Qin Jiu's scent.

Several of the invigilators tensed up, and eyed Qin Jiu warily.
If You Huo could smell him, then Qin Jiu must be extremely close to You Huo...
A surge of overprotection for their boss rushed through them, though they did their best to push it down.
You Huo was old enough to make decisions for himself... and he could clearly take care himself; while he may love Qin Jiu, there was also absolutely no doubt that he could, and would, flip Qin Jiu into the ground if the older did something that he didn't like.
He didn't need them to be looking out for them; just like when it came to taking out the System-

They quickly stopped that train of thought right there and then.
With his head lowered, he said next to You Huo's ear: "Other invigilators and examinees don't sleep together, Big Invigilator."
Qin Jiu: "...!"
The hardliners: "...?"
The moderates: "...!?"
The examinees: "..."
You Huo's eyelashes trembled.
They were in a position that was almost like he was being embraced from behind, but there was also a sense of confrontation between them.
Qin Jiu's eyes widened slightly.
Sleeping together?
That meant that he and You Huo had already... done that before...
His dark eyes lit up brightly, and his heart started racing like it had never before.
Qin Jiu turned to You Huo, winking cheekily, "So... when is Round 2?"
You Huo just glanced at Qin Jiu incredulously.
"..."
A loud thump rang out.
