Summary
Which is why, as he walks into his home after a long day at the office (that is a euphemism for the body he has just deposed of), he is planning a quick dinner followed by an early bedtime (that is not a euphemism – he is quite literally going to pass out). He is, therefore, taken aback when he finds the boy sitting in his living room, one of Alastor’s books in his hands and a smug smile on his face. His mismatched eyes are bright with amusement and mischief. He looks pleased with himself.
“How did you get in here?” Alastor asks, not wanting an answer, exactly, but the question is still forced out of him by the shock of the moment.
Vincent shrugs. “You keep a spare key in the hollow rock on your front porch.” Alastor’s eyes narrow. “It’s a stupid place for it.”
Alastor’s hands clench into fists despite himself and he only just manages to grit out the next word. “What?”
“Am I wrong?”
“Get out.” Alastor points to the door. “Now. Before I call the police.”
“No.”

Summary
Alastor blinked at Rosie, expression frozen in a snapshot of vague alarm. “My dear,” he said, smile twitching, “what is that?”
Rosie grinned. “It’s adorable, don’tcha think? Really gets me into the holiday spirit.”
The bell collar in her hands glinted menacingly. Alastor didn’t give her the satisfaction of seeing him scout the exits, but his shadow did begin to creep surreptitiously towards the open windows, making a brave bid for freedom—ultimately in vain, but Alastor appreciated the instinct.
“It’s a bit… bold,” Alastor hedged.
“What, and that sundress you put me in last month wasn’t?”
“That was tasteful.”
“It was mid-calf!” Rosie threw up her hands, making the bell collar jingle. Alastor couldn’t tear his eyes away from it. “And don’t you give me any crap about plausible deniability, there was nothing deniable about that hemline.”
Or: Rosie and Alastor play games. Vox reaps all the benefits.
