As soon as Riko shuts the door Kevin crouches down in front of Jean putting his hand out for him to hold. Kevin never knows what to say in moments like these when Jean's hand is coated in blood and he’s gripping onto Kevin like he’s his lifeline.
Apologies feel cruel so instead Kevin stays silent listening as Jean’s breathing returns to normal.
Eventually, Kevin tries to stand but Jean tightens his grip on his arm “Don't go,” he pleads.

When Jean woke and felt what was happening within his body, he knew he should not have been surprised. And, yet, his head filled with shock — disappointing and useless. The night before he left South Carolina for Los Angeles, Abby had told him to expect a heat within the next month or two.
But, she had underestimated the amount of hurt Jean’s body had to heal from, and May, June, and July slipped by without any sign of a heat. And, although Jean tried, his mind could not recall what the impending signs of heat looked like.
He remembered them now, flushed and overheating under the sheets on his mattress in Cat and Lailas’ house.
