Ed returns to the ship, wears the sackcloth and bell, abides the rules (mostly), but grapples with identifying his emotions and stilling his mind and body long enough to self reflect. Patience is needed in adjusting to his new place amongst the crew, patience he's never had, including with his self-imposed rule of taking things slow with Stede.
An exploration in differentiating a sense of guilt and fear of ostracization, with a hefty dose of deep yearning.
