Ilya fumbled the plate. He tried to catch it, but it slipped easily through his hands.
SMASH
“Damn it!” Shane exclaimed, more to himself than to Ilya. His tone was barely annoyed, more startled than anything, but Ilya froze. Cold air rushed between his lips, the hardwood floor was suddenly painfully cold against his unmovable feet.
The world around him wavered, going dark at the corners.
In a moment, Ilya was ten years old again.
He rushed into the kitchen at the sound of voices, feet freezing against the crisp white tile. The sun was setting over Moscow outside, casting blue-grey light into the sparsely decorated home.Or: Ilya drops a plate in the kitchen and it reminds him of a particularly difficult night in his childhood home, but Shane is there to comfort him.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov, a professional hockey player with the ego of a small country or large, desperately wants to brag about his boyfriend Shane Hollander. Unfortunately, Shane is also his biggest on-ice rival, which makes public admiration socially and professionally inconvenient. Instead of choosing the reasonable option (keeping quiet), Ilya does what anybody would have done: he creates a Twitter account called “Shane Hollander’s girlfriend.”

"Holy shit!" Vic gasps, gaping at Ilya. "Holy shit," he repeats more slowly as realization dawns on him. "Shane Fucking Hollander is your Montreal girl?"
OR: Ilya's teammates go with him to visit Hollander at the hospital and a high-on-painkillers Shane can't keep his mouth shut. Ilya learns that when it comes down to it, ice is thicker than blood.
