Summary
There are no clothes soaked in rainwater sticking uncomfortably to his skin, no blaring music drowning him out, no blinding stage lights above him, and blood pooling at his feet, staining his shoes. Instead, cool air blows freely through the vents in their small, dark room, light seeping in from the gap beneath the door. Their comfortable clothes are clean, dry, and most importantly, free of blood.
Instead, Till makes out Ivan’s living, breathing figure sleeping next to him. Peacefully, without worries or fear, he hopes. No longer out of reach. Never will be.
Till wakes up from a nightmare.

the way they communicate, or lack thereof, is so well-written here. all at once, they're dancing around the issue, saying what they don't mean, having a secret conversation through looks and unsaid words alone. i love when they talk about something while meaning something else. and maybe anyone else would take the other's words at face value, but these two understand each other so well and see through each other so much to the point they just Know. it's very well executed in my opinion

really wonderful read. goro's dread and anxiety was palpable, it was really good. somehow, despite their roles being swapped, they felt scarily in character as well. i admired that a lot. i think it makes this a far more fascinating fic than it would be if their characters were shifted to fit their roles. i loved reading this so much

no words can describe how painful and fucking brilliant this is. honestly that ending twist got me so bad. it is so in character for akira to know goro so well that he'd be able to pretend to be something goro would never accept. and if it weren't for maruki realising it right at the end, he would've kept up the charade til the very end, wouldn't he? aaa wow wow wow!!! this concept of shuake roleswap is so so good. they handle each other's roles so well while still remaining in character.
i feel extremely blessed to have read this today wow.... like maybe top 10 fics ever -

actually so damn funny it's not fair. i don't think i'm ever going to recover from the phrase "horses are immune to landmines" oh my god. im no better than akira because goro's anger is genuinely so fucking amusing.
but the funnies aside, goodness you can really feel it whenever goro catches himself having a little Too much fun, or seeing akira a little Too happy and is overwhelmed with fear at the chance of being sentenced to hell in maruki's reality because akira can't bear to part with him. sigh. oh man. they put angst in my funny chess ragebait fic
