Lune hadn’t meant to notice, but as she dragged her eyes down, she saw the way Pierre’s hand found Sciel’s and squeezed it with the kind of familiarity Lune ached for, but never allowed herself to have. And when Sciel squeezed back, the gala’s lights cast down on something pale and metallic, causing it to glint back at Lune in mockery.

Lune swallowed, only to be met with resistance as the motion scraped against something tender in her throat. Her fingers tightened around the stem of her glass, and that’s when it hit her. A faint, but unmistakable scent. Something floral.
