Summary
“Do they even need friends?” Ao’nung asks, curiously. Tuk can already envision Ao’nung’s parenting. That poor baby. At least, they would have her.
“Are you even asking me that right now?” Neteyam replies, the stress in his voice palpable.
“It’s going to be ok,” Ao’nung reassures. He takes hold of Neteyam’s hands and squeezes them. “They can be friends with the ilu,” he then says with absolute sincerity.
“The ilu?!”
Or,
Tuk overhears a conversation she was never supposed to and somehow makes it everyone's problem.

Summary
The sensation of it, though not yet at the stage of kicking, is uniquely overwhelming in a way Quaritch cannot quite describe. He looks bloated if anything, still so early on in the pregnancy.
And yet, Varang has begun clinging to him as though he is nine months along and barely able to move. She has not let him out of her sights once since she performed a checkup on him and confirmed that, finally, he is with child.

Summary
“You said you would be my slave.” She coos, raising her head, staring down at him so full of pride.
“I said we were equals.” He responds cautiously, leaning back on his hands as he watches her intently, trying to guess her next move.
She walks toward him, crowding his personal space until she crouches down, tilting her head to the side. He mimics her, his breathing already growing heavy.
“We are.” She agrees, raising a finger and pressing it to the centre of his chest. “But you still want to be mine, deep inside.”

Summary
The person staring up at Jesse, the one with Gabe's voice and Gabe's face, is young, somewhere in his teens by the look of it. He looks scared, and defiant, and so impossibly small.
"My name is Jesse," Jesse says. "Are you Gabe Reyes?"
The kid nods.
