Sir Thomas cheerfully delivering gifts from the bountiful harvest to his subjects and neighbors. Peace and goodwill all around. A beautifully traditional Christmas.
This is Covington Cross, where it doesn’t quite happen that way.

Summary

Armus Grey became betrothed to Margaret Devlin, the youngest daughter of his father's oldest friend, last summer, but they could not be married until her uncle, a bishop, returned from the Holy Land -- and then, not until after Easter. But now Easter is over and Lady Margaret, her family, and her uncle the bishop arrive at Covington Cross for the long-awaited wedding. Everything is planned. It should all be very simple. Right? Right?

Summary
Control’s elaborate scheme to outwit Root and gain access to the Machine goes, predictably, horribly wrong. Once Root escapes, she has her own plans to get to Harold and to her beloved Machine. But the Machine is free now, and it takes action to protect the Admin and those he cares for. In the process, it reveals a secret that no one thought was possible.

Reese opened his mouth, but for a long moment no sound came out. He felt like he was strangling. All the horrors he’d seen in the world, all the absolute monstrosities – and yet Samuel Weitz’ little hobby was just too. He couldn’t even say too what – just too.What finally came out was, “Where does he get the mice?”
There was silence on the other end of the comm.
And then, “Well, that’s a very good question, Mr. Reese.”
