    Written for a prompt on avengerkink:

    I want to see something where, for whatever reason, Steve's accelerated healing turns out to be a bad thing. Something where the faster healing is making things worse. I would prefer something other than the standard, super-healing allows for more torture without death.

    “He's lucky – to have the serum, to have you all.” Tony wasn't sure about that first part.

    When one faced death and destruction every day on the job, there were many advantages to having a healing factor...and a great many disadvantages as well.

    A mission goes badly for Natasha, who is discovered de-aged to three years old. She recognizes no one, but every kid knows Captain America. When Tony grudgingly makes a call, Steve makes good on his promise to answer. Steve has to work together with Tony to take care of a traumatized child and figure out how to turn their itsy bitsy spider back into a Black Widow. Neither of them really want to talk about what happened in Siberia, but living in close quarters, they have to come to some sort of peace - even if it means addressing some feelings they'd rather not admit to having. As they work together to solve the problem of a re-emerging Red Room, Steve uncovers something he never expected to find again: family.

    “The stars were everywhere, falling and shattering around him and setting the ground ablaze.
    Steve let out a scream of terror.”

    In an attempt to save his team, Steve lets Hydra take him in their place, the super soldier that they could never achieve. He knows them, knows their techniques of torture - he will be fine.
    That is, until Hydra decides that breaking someone mentally is far more effective than breaking them physically.
    Steve is soon subjected to a hallucinogen gas that, if he isn’t saved in time, will destroy him completely.
    And the Avengers don’t even know where their Captain is.
