“I was.” Regina moved to the door, hanging half-way out of the hall. “But honestly, one look at you is enough to see where my cousin’s mind is and I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but I don’t know what she sees in you.”
She went to close the door, but Rodrick caught it before it could slam.
“I don’t care about what she sees in me.” he said. “I care about what you see in me. You mean to tell me that you can look at me and not like what you see?”
Regina stared at his face. His stupid grin. His messy black hair. The way his dark brown eyes held a mischievous spark in them like a lightning rod absorbing a strike. The wild look of a free man and spirit. He looked like he was already slightly tipsy; looking at her like he wanted to unravel the tie of her hot pink sundress and watch it drop on Heather’s floor. Loyal, like a dog, her cousin had said.
She inched her face to his, until she could see the blonde in her hair reflecting off of his gaze. “The only thing I see in you is desperation.”
