Now? That control is gone. Especially when a certain overlord dressed in red makes him question many things.
In other words, Vox thought he hated losing control. But he realises he needs structure and instructions. Alastor teaches him how to relish in the lack of power.

Summary
Vox has a special place in his heart for human movies. The things they make can resonate with anyone, and Vox wishes he could still do that, if he ever even did in the first place. He’s the only demon in this shit hole that has access to human technology.
Vox doesn’t really try to stop himself from thinking about Alastor anymore. He knows it’s a battle he’ll lose time and time again, just so he can have clarity he’ll never get.
He misses him, but he doesn’t. Alastor had played him and then left him to die with no regard to how Vox felt. And Vox should hate him for that. But he can’t.
Alastor hates him, though. Vox knows that, has for seventy years. He was always so persistent too, he’s surprised Alastor hasn’t killed him. Vox kind of wished he had. Then maybe he wouldn’t be wondering why he couldn’t hate Alastor back.
Or: Vox tries his best to maybe start feeling better after he failed at his genosidal plans. So, when offered an out by Charlie Morningstar through invite, Vox decides, why not? He can fuck around.
