Rikuson froze as he felt everyone in the bar turn to look at him, then ended up turning toward the bar to find the face of the man he had been trying to forget for five years, trying to let go of the desire he had for him in other people, trying to make his heart stop racing just at the sound of his name. But it was all in vain because upon seeing his face again, he realized he still loved him just as much as the day he left him.

I saw a fanart of Jinshi and Maomao’s children and completely blacked out — this fic is what came out of that.
Maomao becomes Jinshi’s consort, and then everything spirals. Assassins, poison, political chaos, secret babies — you know, courtship.
Somewhere in all the mess, they make something real. This is about power, gossip, survival, and soft hands holding sharp truths — and Jinshi realizing way too late that his whole life belongs to Maomao.(I'm an anime only watcher, so no spoilers for the novels, and they are both adults in this, obviously)
